Settlements and VerdictsSeamen’s Society for Children and Families
In the summer of 1993 Sandra had her two children taken into the New York City foster care system. Seamen's Society for Children and Families placed them in the home of Mary McLaughlin and her adult son Darrell Williams. He allegedly sexually abused and sodomized the two girls for four years. Finally, a day care noticed signs of abuse and informed authorities. Sandra filed a lawsuit against the City of New York, individual current and former City employees, Seamen's Society for Children and Families, and individual current and former agency employees, who unlawfully placed the plaintiffs in an abusive home, failed to protect them from abuse, and then failed to provide necessary medical treatment for the injuries that they had suffered. She was awarded a $2.0 million settlement paid by the City of New York and Frontier Insurance Company in Rehabilitation. (Sep-20-04)
